This Privacy Policy forms a legally binding agreement between you and REL (Renewable Energy Log). By creating an account or submitting data to the REL platform, you confirm that you have read, understood, and expressly agree to every term in this document. If you do not agree, you must not use the platform.
1. Who We Are
REL (Renewable Energy Log) is a geospatial web platform designed to record, organize, and visualize distributed renewable energy installations worldwide. REL enables installers, companies, and energy stakeholders to log solar, wind, bioenergy, and other renewable energy systems together with their geographic locations and basic technical specifications which would appear on a map.
REL is committed to open, transparent data practices in service of the global clean-energy transition. The openness of this platform is fundamental to its mission and by registering, you actively participate in and support that openness.

- Accessible worldwide without registration
- Reusable under the REL Open Data Licence
3c. Image Authenticity; No AI-Generated Content
YOUR DECLARATION
"I confirm that every image I upload to REL is a genuine, unaltered photograph or scan of a real renewable energy installation. I confirm that no uploaded image has been generated, fabricated, or materially altered using artificial intelligence (AI) tools, image-synthesis models, deepfake technology, or any similar generative process."
REL requires authentic visual documentation to maintain the integrity of its geospatial database. Accordingly:
- • AI-generated images (e.g. produced by tools such as DALL·E, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, or equivalent) are strictly prohibited
- • Digitally composited images that falsely depict an installation are strictly prohibited
- • Minor colour correction, cropping, or brightness adjustment of a real photograph is permitted

YOUR DECLARATION
"I understand that the geographic coordinates I provide for each installation will be published publicly on an interactive map accessible to anyone on the internet. I confirm I have the right to disclose the location of each installation I submit."
If a location is on private property, you are responsible for ensuring the landowner consents to the public disclosure of the geographic coordinates.
4. How We Use Your Information
- Create and maintain the open geospatial database
- Verify submissions and data authenticity
- Provide platform features
- Send account communications
- Generate analytics and reports
- Prevent fraud and abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
5. Data Sharing & Third Parties
5.1 Public Data
As stated in Section 3b, all project data you submit is published publicly. REL does not control how third parties use publicly available data once it has been downloaded.
5.2 Account Data
Your account credentials (email address, password hash) and personal contact details are not published publicly. REL will not sell your personal account data to third parties. We may share personal data with:
- • Service providers who operate REL infrastructure (hosting, email, security) under strict data-processing agreements
- • Law enforcement or regulatory authorities when required by law
- • Successors in the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to equivalent privacy protections
5.3 Aggregate & Anonymised Data
REL may freely share, publish, and commercialise aggregate, anonymised statistics derived from the database (e.g. "12,000 solar installations logged in Southeast Asia"). Such data does not identify individual users or specific un-disclosed installations.
6. Data Retention
Project submission data is retained indefinitely as part of the open database, in accordance with REL's mission to build a permanent historical record of clean-energy deployment. If you wish to request correction or removal of a specific record, see Section 8.
Account data is retained for the lifetime of your account.
7. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
REL uses essential cookies to operate the platform (authentication sessions, preferences). We may use analytics cookies to understand platform usage and improve the service. You may configure your browser to refuse cookies, but some platform features may not function correctly without them.

- to:
- • Access: request a copy of the personal account data REL holds about you
- • Correction: request correction of inaccurate personal account data

- • Objection: object to processing of your personal data in certain circumstances
- • Portability: receive your personal data in a machine-readable format
To exercise any of these rights, contact us.
Note: Because project data is released under an open licence and may already have been downloaded and replicated by third parties, REL cannot guarantee the removal of project data from all locations on the internet once it has been published.
9. Content Moderation & Enforcement
REL reserves the right to review, edit, flag, or remove any submission that:
- Contains AI-generated, fabricated, or deceptive imagery or data
- Relates to an installation the submitter has no right to disclose
- Is demonstrably inaccurate, misleading, or abusive
- Violates any applicable law or regulation
Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, permanent ban, or referral to relevant authorities. REL's decisions on content moderation are final.

The REL platform and its database are provided "as is" and "as available". REL makes no warranties —express or implied — regarding the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or fitness for purpose of any data in the database, including data submitted by third parties. Users who rely on REL data for planning, investment, or regulatory purposes do so at their own risk and should independently verify all information.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, REL shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to: (a) your use of or inability to use the platform; (b) any data submitted by you or any other user; (c) unauthorised access to or alteration of your data; or (d) any third party's use of publicly available REL data.
